Working as a Systems Engineer, you’ll be joining and collaborating with a global team within the company and technical partners worldwide. You’ll be client focused, delivering systems in a timely manner to a quality that you and the company are proud of.

The firm uses an industry standard architecture of PLC with HMI & SCADA systems to deliver their automation machines. You will also undertake control system design with a mix of the vee model and agile methods, using the best of both to deliver cutting edge systems.

Key Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop and integrate the following as a class owner or domain expert: Rich and intuitive user interfaces | Software drivers | Functional software | Communications Interfaces | Robot control | Vision systems | Artificial intelligence systems | Industry 4.0 systems | Safety Related Systems
  • Contribute to: Design standard compliance | Technical construction file | Off and on-site customer support
  • Work with: Electrical and mechanical teams integrating all disciplines into the design | Production engineers to ensure products are designed for manufacture
  • Prepare and/or present: Technical reports and documentation | Control system designs for review
  • Develop engineering specifications from customer requirements
  • Design software and systems to specification, cost and time targets
  • Software/System problem solving in both legacy and new special purpose machines
  • Carry out unit, regression and integration testing at all phases of development
  • Draft operating, instruction and maintenance manuals
  • Highlight all system technical risks to senior engineers and project managers
  • Carrying out design change requests
  • Report progress of all projects to Engineering Management and Project Management teams
  • Produce demonstration systems with company software
  • Develop prototypes and proofs of concept with our strategic partners

Desired Qualifications, Experience & Attributes

  • Demonstrable experience working in the Automation, Software or Systems Engineering field with focus on a good selection of the following areas: Robot programming and commissioning | PLC | Safety related systems development | Vision systems such as Keyence, Cognex and Omron | HMI and SCADA systems | Digital Twin / Virtual Commissioning platforms and processes
  • Experience with GIT (Currently use BitBucket) software version control
  • Experience using Jira/Trello or an equivalent system
  • Ability to write clear and comprehensive technical documentation
  • Highly analytical mind, with exceptional problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to create highly creative and innovative solutions to our clients’ problems
  • Ability to communicate technical ideas to non-technical people in a visually and verbally
  • Ability to use hand tools and diagnostic equipment
  • A minimum of BTEC Level 4/5, HND/HNC in a relevant field to Automation/Special purpose machines and/or Software/System design
  • Aspiration, or eligibility, to register at Incorporated or Chartered Engineer status with a recognised Engineering institution

Desirable experience & Abilities

  • The ideal candidate will have a background in controls and automation engineering with a leaning or desire towards working with special purpose manufacturing/test machines varying in complexity and technology from legacy systems to the cutting edge
  • You should be comfortable with working with all stakeholders in a project, particularly with the client in both on and off site locations in the UK and around the world
  • Electrical design within the domain of special purpose machines
  • Coding in C#, Visual Basic 6, Visual Basic.NET
  • Ability to use Microsoft Visual Studio (2017 onwards) where Coding is a skill
  • Understanding of Vision, Robot, production line testing, Programmable Logic Controllers and other automation technology is desirable
