Senior Buyer

We’re looking for a Senior Buyer with manufacturing/engineering experience to join the purchasing team of an internationally recognised provider of hydraulic and mobile filtration solutions.

As a Senior Buyer, you’ll be responsible for all aspects of stock, whilst working alongside and being supported by our Purchasing Assistant. To succeed in this role, you’ll need to have a high attention to detail for managing stock levels and forecasts, as well as exceptional communication and relation building skills to manage relationships with suppliers and manufacturers.

Senior Buyer Key Duties & Responsibilities 

• Forecast levels of demand for services and products
• Keep a constant check on stock levels, including slow moving and Brexit contingencies
• Conduct research to ascertain the best products and suppliers in terms of value, delivery schedules and quality
• Implement a supplier audit process and monthly KPI’s
• Liaise between suppliers, manufacturers, and relevant internal departments
• Build and maintain good relationships with new and existing suppliers
• Negotiate and agree contracts, monitoring the quality of service provided
• Keep contract files and use them as reference for the future
• Forecast price trends and their impact on future activities
• Develop a purchasing strategy
• Produce reports and statistics using computer software
• Evaluate bids and make recommendations, based on commercial and technical factors
• Ensure suppliers are aware of business objectives
• Attend meetings and trade conferences
• Train and supervise the work of other members of staff

Skills & Experience 

Essential

• Experienced in using an MRP/ERP system (Company currently uses Microsoft Dynamics AX)
• Previous experience in a similar role
• Fully familiar with 5S and lean manufacturing techniques
• Previous experience required from a manufacturing/engineering background

Desirable

• Italian speaking is an advantage though not essential
• CIPS qualifications (or similar) are also considered advantageous
