The Mechanical Engineer will provide first-class technical support to SMC's customers, European subsidiaries, the Japanese Technical Centre and SMC Headquarters. The role covers product testing, development support, technical enquiries, claims investigation, documentation, training and market research. It is open to experienced engineers and recent graduates.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Product testing and development
- Support product testing for customers
- Support product development activities

Technical support
- Answer technical enquiries from European subsidiaries
- Investigate product claims and report on findings
- Prepare technical documentation
Training and market insight
- Identify, develop and deliver technical training
- Carry out market research to inform product and business decisions

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Essential
- Degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics or Electromechanical Engineering (2:2 minimum)
- Experience writing technical reports
- SolidWorks or similar 3D CAD software
- Willingness to learn basic electrical engineering principles
- Ability to work as part of a multicultural team
- Excellent spoken and written English
- Valid passport, as the role involves some European travel
Desirable
- Knowledge of the design and operation of temperature control equipment
- Experience of control systems design and tuning
- Experience designing mechanical components or assemblies for industrial machinery
- Experience planning and managing your own projects
- Experience working with customers and suppliers
- LabVIEW
- Technical training experience
- Full UK driving licence
- European language or Japanese language skills
